Rock
95's promotion
staff saw
disaster when
their 16 foot

The pig shaped

its tether

But the loss
quickly turned
into a dream

XM
Canada Brings
Back Verge
Music Awards
Toronto
ON from Lee
Clifford
XM
Canada (TSX:XSR),
the country’s
leading satellite
radio company,
continues
to support
Canadian talent
with the second
annual The
Verge Music
Awards. The
awards will
once again
present $25,000
to winners
of Album of
the Year and
$25,000 to
Artist of
the Year,
as voted by
fellow Canadians.
“The
Verge Music
Awards are
about celebrating
and helping
elevate the
careers of
Canadian bands,”
said Jeff
Leake, Director
of Music Programming
at XM Canada.
“What’s
unique about
our awards
is that the
fans are the
ones that
choose the
winners -
it’s
for Canadians,
by Canadians.”
Online
voting will
begin on Canada
Day and will
be open until
August 31st.
Canadians
can log on
to www.thevergeonline.com/vma
and vote for
their favourite
artists and
albums. After
two months
of voting,
the top nominations
will be announced.
Last
year’s
award for
Artist of
the Year went
to Winnipeg
band The Weakerthans.
“It
was a great
privilege
to receive
the acknowledgement
from the 2008
XM The Verge
Music Awards,”
says Stephen
Carroll, lead
guitarist
for The Weakerthans.
“The
Verge Music
Awards does
a great service
to the Canadian
music scene
as it gives
all nominated
artists much
needed exposure
and support.
We would like
to thank XM
Canada for
supporting
Canadian music.
XM Canada
is where the
music we make
is heard.”
“Winning
The Verge
Music Award’s
Album of the
Year for Into

was a total
surprise and
honour; and
the money
has helped
bring our
songs to a
larger and
farther flung
audience,”
says Tim Baker,
vocalist,
guitarist
and pianist
for St. John’s
band Hey Rosetta!
“To
win the votes
from peers
and public
was a cool
pat on the
back, and
to receive
it from XM
Canada’s
The Verge
was even better.
The fact that
it can be
so big, far-reaching
and well-funded
on the one
hand, while
still remaining
grassroots
and all about
the music
on the other
is inspiring.”
XM
Canada’s
The Verge,
channel 87
and namesake
of the award
show, broadcasts
new, emerging
and independent
Canadian talent
and is a major
support system
for Canada’s

Following
on the heels
of last year’s

show, this
year The Verge
Music Awards

CBS
Radio Quebec
Announces
2 New 100%
Guarantees
For Montreal
Montreal
QC from Veronica
Low
CBS
Radio Quebec,
representing
33 stations
across the
province of
Quebec, is
proud to announce
two new 100%
guarantees
for Montreal.
With
the arrival
of PPM’s
in the markets
of Montreal
Franco and
Montreal Anglo,
one can see
the immediate
impact of
format changes.
On April 14th
2009, CFQR-FM
re-launched
as The Q and
the effect
was immediate.
The radio
landscape
in Montreal
Anglo was
no longer
the same as
the day before.
We now can
track weekly
tuning in
real time.
This means
the last seven
weeks of the
Q3 2008-2009
survey, April
13th to May
31st 2009,
can be captured
accurately,
giving buyers
a better sense
of market
share and
audience tuning.
As such, we
are proud
to introduce
The Q Guarantee.
Any buy based
on ratings
of the last
seven weeks
of the PPM
survey will
be guaranteed
to 100% of
their booking
with the release
of the Q1
2009-2010
(S4 2009)
for Montreal
Anglo.
The
CKOI Guarantee
comes into
play August
24th with
the launch
of two new
shows on the
station: Laurent
Paquin during
the AM and
Normand Brathwaite
during the
afternoon
drive. Both
Laurent and
Normand are
mega stars
in Quebec
and the station
believes that
the impact
of these two
shows will
be immediate
in the PPM
world. As
such, our
research department
has prepared
audience estimates.
Bookings sold
based on these
estimates
will be guaranteed
100% on the
release of
the Q1 2009-2010
(S4 2009)
PPM survey
for Montreal
Franco.
These
guarantees
join the CBS
Radio Quebec
Guarantee.
This means
clients can
be assured
that their
campaign will
deliver 100%
of their buy.
The stations
offered by
CBS Radio
Quebec allow
advertisers
to connect
with consumers
via a variety
of programming
environments
and formats,
from AC to
Jazz, News
to Greatest
Hits, Sports
and Top 40.
This allows
for a balanced
buy across
various demos.
With the guarantee
in place to
deliver 100%
of the buy
CBS Radio
Quebec stations
continue to
offer buyers
a level of
confidence
when placing
broadcast
investments.
In
Montreal French,
CBS Radio
Quebec stations
are:
CFGL-FM, CKOI-FM,
CHMP-FM, CKLX-FM,

2008.
Canada’s
AM and FM

$1.58 billion

with the annual

its float

Busting bull

all part of
the evening’s

when one of

Montreal Canadiens
Goal tender
Carey Price.
As it turns
out, Carey,
who was born

country music
and enjoys
the bull riding
circuit in
the off-season.
“I love
the bull riding
scene, but
of course
Montreal wouldn’t
like the idea
of me jumping
on the back
of a bull,
so I settle
in and enjoy
being a spectator”.
The bull-riding
extravaganza
entertained
a sellout
crowd and
is certain
to return
again next

Shore
104 fm - A
Beginning
Vancouver
BC from Patrick
Zulinov
This
past week,
Shore 104
quietly started
its broadcast
life here
in Vancouver.
We just wanted
to slip onto
the air without
fanfare. It's
not about
us as much
as it's about
you, this
beautiful
city, and
about embracing
our music
and culture.
No bells or
whistles.
No boastful
marketing
or hype. No
tempting prizes
or promises.
We know you
see through
that and have
heard it before.
Shore
104 is owned
and run by
a small group
of local,
music minded
individuals
who were fortunate
enough to
be granted
a broadcast
license in
Vancouver.
We are an
independent
Vancouver
based company
eager to give
this city
something
new on its
radio landscape.
We are currently
testing our
signal, and
testing out
some music
over the next
few weeks
before we
sign on officially
at the beginning
of July. Consider
June a "Soundcheck"
with the full
show hitting
the stage
next month.
We
are at 104.1
on your FM
dial.
We
are doing
our best to
build this
station to
satisfy the
eclectic,
intelligent
music fan
here in Vancouver,
and worldwide,
streaming
at www.shore104.com
We
hope to create
an authentic
roots based
adult rock
radio station,
with some
flavor from
the best of
musical genres
that we hope
you enjoy,
including
reggae, blues,
folk, alt
country, soul,
and some interesting
surprises,
The focus
is on quality
song writing
and musicianship
as well as
in supporting
the music
of this fine
country. There
may be some
versions of
popular songs
you may not
have heard,
or some tasty
depth tracks
from your
favorite artists.
We hope you
like it, and
are happy
to hear your
comments and
suggestions
@ www.shore104.com
This
is an incredible
opportunity
for this city
to embrace
it's local
talent, dig
out some gems
from heritage
artists, and
explore some
incredible
new music
from around
the world
which deserves
more attention
than it gets
from conventional
radio. We
hope to inspire
you to be
excited about
turning to
the radio
and hearing
something
new, or vintage,
in the best
mix possible.
There's no
way we'll
be able to
please everyone,
but hey, that's
a tall order.
Those who
may be critical
have other
choices. We
are realistic
and appreciate
your thoughts,
and the opportunity
to grow into
what you'd
hope us to
be.
Check
it out and
give us your
feedback.
We are starting
this from
scratch. A
blank canvas
being filled
by feel and
flow, not
by corporate
templates,
research or
testing, Help
us to build
the best radio
station we
can. Music
is such an
amazing thing
in our lives
that transcends
race, religion,
sex, social
class and
physical ability.
It unites,
celebrates,
heals and
teaches. There
is truly nothing
you can compare
it to. Embrace
it with us.
Thanks
for your time,
your ears,
and for giving
us a try.
More news
as we develop
our programming
and introduce
our musically
passionate
on air hosts.
We hope you
find it enjoyable
and that you
keep coming
back to THE
SHORE. Cheers,
and have an
amazing summer. |

JACK
Gets KISSed
Off In Toronto
Toronto
ON
Rogers
has pulled
the plug on
their flagship
JACK FM station,
92.5 FM in
Toronto and
re-launched
the station
as KISS 92.5...
a nickname
and format
the station
had used previously.
Official
release:
Today
at 3:00 p.m.
ET, Toronto
listeners
and thousands
more across
the country
via the internet,
were introduced
to Rogers
Broadcasting's
newest radio
station, KISS92.5
FM, the only
"ALL
HITS"
radio station
in the city
of Toronto.
"We did
an incredible
amount of
research and
it came back
loud and clear.
It told us
there was
a huge unfulfilled
demand for
a station
that would
play All Hits
and nothing
but today's
Hits. We are
encouraged
by our findings
that indicate
there are
a large number
of people
who are seeking
out this kind
of programming...more
than we ever
had thought,"
said Sandy
Sanderson,
Executive
Vice President,
Toronto Radio.
Available
on-air at
92.5 FM in
Toronto and
online at
kiss925.ca,
the station
kicked off
its broadcast
Friday at
3 o'clock
with a promise
to play 10,000
songs in a
row with no
commercial
interruption,
featuring
artists like
Beyonce, Lady
Gaga, Black
Eyed Peas,
Kanye West,
Nickelback,
Katy Perry,
T.I., Justin
Timberlake,
Kardinal Offishall,
Britney Spears,
Ne-Yo, Kelly
Clarkson and
Rihanna among
others. The
launch was
simulcast
on Rogers
All-News outlet,
680News.
KISS92.5
will engage
its listeners
both on the
air and online
by taking
advantage
of all the
possibilities
that present
themselves
in the new
digital world.
As the station
evolves, the
audience will
be "plugged
in" through
instant messaging,
Twitter, Facebook,
MySpace and
several other
social networking
sites as well
as wirelessly
via texting.
On-air
talent for
KISS92.5 will
be announced
in the coming
weeks, along
with details
on concerts
and events
that will
feature today's
biggest hit
makers.
Added
Paul Ski,
CEO, Radio,
"Launching
this station
across several
platforms
will expand
dramatically
what we can
offer our
advertisers.
At the same
time, we are
offering a
true alternative
listening
option for
a very dynamic
sector of
the Toronto
population." |
