Competition Attempts To Cash In On $tuntman $tu's Idea
Ottawa ON

What started out as a fun idea on the Majic Morning Show, turned into an idea SO good that the competition just couldn't resist.

Majic 100 host Stuntman Stu invited his Facebook followers to comment on his photo (holding a ticket for tonight's $50 Million Lotto Max draw) and promissed to share $1000 with everyone who made a comment before 9pm.

By 5:30pm, over 12,000 people had commented... and not one, but two local competitors "borrowed" the idea, inviting their listeners to participate in similar exercises.

Astral Radio Launches On-Demand Digital Musical Service Across NRJ & Virgin Radio Networks
Montreal QC from Astral

Astral Radio is pleased to announce the launch of its all-new digital music service across the NRJ and Virgin Radio Networks. Astral Radio is the first radio broadcaster in Canada to offer this kind of on-demand music and music video streaming service. Not only does this offer listeners new and innovative platforms to discover and share new music, but at the same time it provides its local and national advertisers with new business opportunities on new platforms. The service will be accessible from the radio station websites and on mobile devices. The new service will enable listeners to access different musical content in audio and video formats. It will also offer weekly releases, exclusive content, a music video library and customizable playlist functions, as well as specialized web radio channels. The on-demand player will exploit all the opportunities that social media present so that music lovers can share their discoveries and their favourites on a variety of social media platforms.

The on-demand player has been made possible thanks to agreements concluded between Astral Radio and four major music labels. Some agreements have been signed in Quebec. Astral Radio also counts on announcing agreements with the main Quebec record labels over the coming months.

“Radio continues to be the primary source of music discovery for fans. We are very excited to offer our listeners multiple ways to discover, enjoy and share their music. We also value our relationship with the music industry and look forward to working together in breaking new artists” says Rob Farina, Executive Vice-President, Content, at Astral Radio.

A major campaign to promote the service is planned on participating radio stations, all Cineplex theatre screens across Canada, as well as a digital online marketing campaign.

Advertisers will also have the opportunity to integrate their brand and/or their offer with this exclusive musical service in several ways. Advertisers will also be able to sponsor different sections of the site, such as artist of the month, exclusive interviews, countdowns and the web radio channels. “In addition to extending the experience with their favourite radio brand online, Astral Radio’s on-demand player will offer advertisers new business opportunities via the multiplatform offer from Astral Radio, which already includes radio, web and mobility,” says Mario Cecchini, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Astral Radio.

The service is being launched by all of the Virgin Radio stations in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver), the NRJ network across Quebec, and various other Canadian Top 40 format Astral stations, such as HOT 103 and the Sun fm network. Available online now, the service will be available on mobile devices this spring.

Lethbridge AB from Scott McGregor

Forget Frying an egg on the sidewalk…THIS IS CANADA! Ever wonder long it would take to FREEZE an egg on the sidewalk? Scott McGregor and Megan McGeough from Rock 106 in Lethbridge did just that.

They fought the biter cold winds of Southern Alberta during temperatures of -45C and cracked an egg on the sidewalk to see how long it would take to freeze. As of now Scott's wife still has no idea that the eggs are missing from fridge. DON'T TELL HER! This 'breaking' news story was even picked up by The Calgary Herald (via their Tumblr site) and only makes sense to share it with yolk...errr..you.

94X PD Announcement
Prince George BC from Gary Russell

After a long and intense search to find a replacement for PD Gary Long (now with our sister station The Juice in Kelowna), I am pleased to announce Vista Radio’s Kevin Cotter will take over the Program Director position for Prince George’s Rock Station CIRX effective January 9th 2012.

As Assistant Program Director, Kevin has proven to be a positive, idea driven team player. His work on the Morning After Show and the station’s New Media platform has taken 94X to an amazing level of interaction with our audience. Kevin will continue to host the morning show and will begin immediately the task of filling his co-host position.

This decision was made extremely difficult by a highly competitive application process. We received over 30 applications and I’m really proud of the fact that the strongest applicants came from within our company. I would like to acknowledge and thank Kyle Wightman, Matt Porteous and Erin McTaggart for their strong applications and professionalism throughout this process. All three of these talented broadcasters are a key part of our current success as the number one combo in Prince George and I know we can count on that expertise to further build our on air and on line brands. Vista Radio is committed to promoting from within and I know there will be many opportunities in the future for these talented individuals.

Congratulations Kevin and again thanks to all those who applied.
